HC Deb 07 February 1984 vol 53 cc560-1W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will compare the starting rate of income tax and the top rates in the United Kingdom with the levels in Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, Denmark, the United States of America, Belgium, France and Japan.

Mr. Moore

The information requested is given in the table:

charge. Booksellers may obtain these publications at similar discounts to those provided by other publishers. Orders may be placed by post, telephone or telex to the publications centre in London, to five HMSO regional bookshops, to the HMSO trade representative for the area concerned, or to HMSO's local agents overseas. A trade counter service is also available from HMSO's London bookshop. HMSO also accepts orders forwarded by the booksellers' teleordering service.

Agreements to act as HMSO agents have been made with over 40 leading booksellers in major United Kingdom towns and cities. Among other advantages, agents automatically receive early supply of important Government publications.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what proportions of Her Majesty's Stationery Office publications are sold through Her Majesty's Stationery Office outlets and through other booksellers, respectively.

Mr. Hayhoe

Some 81 per cent. of the gross sales value of HMSO publications—including 47 per cent. in respect of sales to Government Departments — is sold through HMSO outlets. Some 19 per cent. is sold through other bookshops.
