HC Deb 07 February 1984 vol 53 c558W
Mr. Fatchett

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if any employees, dismissed at Government communications headquarters, will have the right to present a case to an industrial tribunal on the grounds of unfair dismissal, or redundancy.

Sir Geoffrey Howe

Generally speaking, there will be a right to present a case only to the Civil Service Appeals Board. But a case for unlawful dismissal on grounds of sexual or racial discrimination could be brought before an industrial tribunal under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 or the Race Relations Act 1976, except in cases where the action in question was certified by a Minister as having been done for the purpose of safeguarding national security.
