HC Deb 07 February 1984 vol 53 c558W
Mr. Bottomley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether any changes have occurred in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office cash limits for 1983–84 subsequent to the answer given to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Selly Oak (Mr. Beaumont-Dark) by the Chief Secretary to the Treasury on 27 July 1983, Official Report, c. 441.

Mr. Whitney

Subject to parliamentary approval of the necessary spring Supplementary Estimate, the cash limit of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Class II, Vote 4 will be increased by £1,912,000 from £39,883,000 to £41,795,000 to enable the British Council to maintain its level of activity in this financial year. The increase will be charged to the contingency reserve and will not therefore add to the planned total of public expenditure.
