HC Deb 07 February 1984 vol 53 c534W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Prime Minister if she is satisfied with the preparations being made for the next European Economic Community summit in March.

The Prime Minister

The conduct of the negotiations leading to the European Council on 19–20 March is essentially a matter for the French presidency. A number of bilateral meetings have already taken place, including my own meeting with President Mitterrand on 23 January. I also met the Italian Prime Minister on 26–27 January. My right hon. and learned Friend met the Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany for talks on 6 February. The French Minister for European Affairs, M. Dumas, will be visiting London for talks on 8 February.

In addition to these and other bilateral contacts, the negotiations will be carried forward at an informal meeting of EC Foreign Ministers on 18–19 February, at the Foreign Affairs Council on 20 February and in other relevant Councils.
