HC Deb 06 February 1984 vol 53 c446W
34. Dr. Twinn

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his policy towards a weekend and overnight lorry ban in Greater London.

Mrs. Chalker

My right hon. Friend has made clear to the GLC that we would want to consider very carefully all the evidence upon which a night-time and week-end lorry ban was proposed. We would not support measures which inflicted serious damage on London's economy.

52. Mr. Martin Stevens

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the effects of the selective exclusion of heavy lorries from Greater London.

Mrs. Chalker

There are clearly some areas where heavy lorries are inappropriate, and the Government have supported local bans introduced after full examination of their likely effects and full consultation. Any proposals that require my consent will have to be fully and carefully justified.
