The latest available information relates to December 1982 when it was estimated that 188,000 claimants would be subject to voluntary unemployment deductions in the year up to July 1983; 112,000 at the higher 40 per cent. rate and 76,000 at the lower 20 per cent. rate. The total amount of benefit deducted for this period is estimated at £4.9 million.
