HC Deb 01 February 1984 vol 53 cc240-1W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will tabulate for each Greater Manchester district authority area the number of youth training scheme projects in mode A and mode B and the number of trainees.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The information requested is given in the table:

Local Authority Mode A Mode B
Number of Projects Number of Trainess Number of Projects Number of Trainees
Manchester 47 1,397 32 1,030
Salford 33 566 19 681
Trafford 13 621 9 342
Oldham 16 819 4 281
Tameside 19 712 18 300
Stockport 34 1,109 4 94
Bolton 27 1,045 10 215
Bury 16 542 4 80
Rochdale 11 560 9 383
Wigan 17 1,119 9 498

Notes:

  1. i) Figures given refer to the end of December.
  2. ii) Figures exclude centrally-negotiated large companies schemes. At the end of December there were 2,461 young people in training on 313 schemes with these large companies in Greater Manchester.

Mr. Tony Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will tabulate, for the local government wards of the Stretford constituency, the number of youth training scheme projects in mode A and mode B and the number of trainees.

Mr. Peter Morrison

I regret that this information is not available.

Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many private agencies are handling Manpower Services Commission youth training scheme contracts; how these are monitored; and if he is satisfied that these private agencies are properly vetted and their competence is adequately monitored.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The figure requested is not held centrally. However, it is clear that the places provided by private training organisations constitute a relatively small but useful part of the youth training scheme. All programmes under the youth training scheme are regularly assessed against the same standards.
