§ Mr. Alan ClarkThe following table gives the figures for unemployed claimants in the Burnley travel-to-work area who, on 13 October 1983, the latest date for which the statistics are available, had been unemployed for the lengths of time specified. It also gives the figures for those who had been unemployed for over 18 months to two years. The male figures are affected by the provisions announced in the 1983 Budget, which meant that some men aged 60 and over no longer had to sign on.
