HC Deb 21 December 1984 vol 70 c379W
Mr. Sackville

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many (a) compulsory and (b) voluntary redundancies there were of British Rail employees in the months October, November and December 1983.

Mr. David Mitchell

British Rail is not able to provide the information in the form requested. However, I understand that in the last 15 weeks of 1983 (19 September to 31 December) 3,092 British Rail staff left on voluntary redundancy terms, including 1,488 from British Rail Engineering Limited. There were no compulsory redundancies.
