HC Deb 21 December 1984 vol 70 cc375-6W
Mr. Pym

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether it is his intention to commemorate in the United Kingdom those who died in the Falklands conflict.

Mr. Heseltine

A South Atlantic campaign memorial, bearing the names of all those who lost their lives, is to be erected, with the agreement of the Dean and Chapter of St. Paul's, in the crypt of the cathedral, in a suitable place close to other military memorials there. Work will commence shortly and the memorial will be unveiled next summer.

Her Majesty the Queen has graciously accepted an invitation to unveil the memorial during a commemorative service in the cathedral, to which the next of kin of those who died will be invited.
