HC Deb 20 December 1984 vol 70 cc272-3W
Mr. Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what representations he has received following his announcement of a freeze on financial support programmes for technology; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Butcher

As at 14 December 22 written representations have been received from individuals, firms or organisations, commenting on the announcement by my hon. Friend on 12 November that, pending the completion of a review of policy in support of industrial research and development, no new applications could be considered for certain categories of project assistance.

As my hon. Friend explained at the time, collaborative projects for applied or seedcorn research can still be considered. Help for civil aviation, aero engine and space projects outside the support for innovation programme is not affected nor are other measures such as the teaching company scheme and the arrangements to help firms obtain expert consultancy and advice.
