HC Deb 20 December 1984 vol 70 c272W
Mr. Freeman

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will consider amendment to companies' legislation to permit public companies with substantial numbers of shareholders to hold a series of general meetings in different parts of the United Kingdom, all to constitute one annual general meeting subject to cumulative voting.

Mr. Fletcher

The Companies Acts impose very few restrictions on the holding of company meetings and it is not clear that changes in the law are, at present, necessary. However, I am always ready to consider ways and means of encouraging and facilitating shareholder participation in company affairs.
