HC Deb 20 December 1984 vol 70 c294W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government propose making any changes in their policy in the light of recent peace initiatives in southern Africa including the Nkomati accord, the Lusaka agreement, the Pretoria declaration and continuing Namibian negotiations; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

We have welcomed the Nkomati accord, the Lusaka agreement and other recent initiatives in southern Africa which we hope will improve the prospects for peace and stability. We encourage contact and dialogue between the countries of southern Africa and, with other Western countries, shall continue to work for the peaceful resolution of the region's problems through patient diplomacy.
