HC Deb 20 December 1984 vol 70 cc305-6W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many (a) health authorities, (b) social services authorities and (c) voluntary organisations have had to put group homes planned for the mentally handicapped and/or mentally ill in the community to different use because of adverse public reaction to their plans.

Mr. John Patten

This information is not available centrally. We are aware of occasional press reports, but we have no reason to believe that there are many instances where it has been felt necessary to change the use of such group homes because of adverse public reaction after construction or purchase. Many small local schemes enjoy strong local support in helping residents to integrate into the communities of which they are now part.
