HC Deb 20 December 1984 vol 70 c276W
Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Transport which Government policies are referred to in the statement in his Department's press notice No. 527 on the east London road assessment study to which the road study is to have regard.

Mrs. Chalker

As the Government's various White Papers, statements and legislation have all made clear, our overall aim is to cater for the movement of goods and people more cost-effectively within the resources available, having regard to environmental and other considerations.

Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will arrange to publish all the responses he receives to the consultation on the east London road assessment study.

Mrs. Chalker

No. It will be for the individuals concerned to decide if they wish to publish their views.

Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will define the phrase "essential lorry" as used in his Department's press notice No. 527 on the east London road assessment study.

Mrs. Chalker

Essential lorries are those which form part of the necessary commercial and industrial traffic.

Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will define the word "corridor" as used in his Department's press notice No. 527 on the east London road assessment study.

Mrs. Chalker

As the press notice concerned makes clear, the word "corridor" means an area through which longer distance traffic movement in London takes place.
