HC Deb 20 December 1984 vol 70 cc274-5W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the current waiting time for a driving test in Dundee; what are the comparable figures for each of the past three years; and what are the corresponding figures for Scotland.

Mrs. Chalker

The figures for an L driving test are:

Dundee weeks Scotland weeks
14 December 1984 16 14
16 December 1983 10 7
17 December 1982 4 7
18 December 1981 9 9

More examiners are being recruited for Scotland to bring down waiting periods.

Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the current first-time percentage pass rate for each driving test centre in Scotland.

Mrs. Chalker

The information is not available. The pass rate for all candidates taking their test in the Scottish traffic area in 1983 was nearly 51 per cent. Nationally the figure was just over 49 per cent.
