§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has made for improving road communications between Birmingham and the east coast ports.
§ Mrs. ChalkerThe Government's trunk road programme contains a number of schemes for improving routes between Birmingham and the East Anglian ports. The most important is the proposed M1–Al link road, into which a public inquiry is in progress, and which would complete a high-standard dual carriageway route from the M1–M6 junction to Ipswich. In addition, the western section of the Ipswich bypass is expected to open late in 1985; and a number of planned improvements to the A47 east of Leicester and the A11 north of Newmarket would cater for traffic to Great Yarmouth.
