HC Deb 19 December 1984 vol 70 cc197-8W
Mr. William Powell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many schemes have been approved for the clearance of derelict land in the Corby development area in 1983–84 and 1984–85 to date; what was their area; and how much grant was payable.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

In addition to ongoing works, 100 per cent. grant has been agreed for the acquisition by Corby district council for reclamation of further areas of the former steelworks—8 hectares in 1983–84 at a cost of £107,000 and 15 hectares in 1984–85 costing £190,000. The continuing scheme, including these approvals, to reclaim part of the former steelworks site, and to provide basic on-site infrastructure now covers 142.5 hectares. Total expenditure of over £9 million has been approved since 1981, £3.3 million of which was incurred in 1983–84. For 1984–85 £3–5 million has been made available.
