HC Deb 18 December 1984 vol 70 c100W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for defence if any companies involved in the Federal Republic of Germany are experiencing difficulties in reaching production deadlines in the FH70 programme.

Mr. Butler

Not that I am aware.

Mr. Tony Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many jobs are expected to be lost, both directly and indirectly, as a result of giving the FH70 order to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Mr. Butler

The current order for FH70 ammunition to meet British Army requirements has, in accordance with international working agreements, been allocated to the Federal Republic of Germany. Had this work been awarded in full to the ROFs, in contravention of the relevant memorandum of understanding, it is estimated that it would have given rise to 640 man years of work. It is not possible to estimate the amount of any further work which this would have produced elsewhere.

Mr. Tony Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will indicate how much work has been received by (a) the United Kingdom, (b) the Federal Republic of Germany and (c) the Republic of Italy under the agreement concerning the FH70 programme.

Mr. Butler

The latest trilaterally agreed position is as follows:

Value of work Percentage of total Workshares entitlement
£ million Per cent. Per cent.
UK industry 204 38.1 36.3
FRG industry 185 34.7 36.3
Italian industry 145 27.2 27.4
534 100 100
