21. Mr. Gerald Howarth

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the progress of the enterprise allowance scheme.

Mr. Alan Clark

We are very encouraged by the continued success of the enterprise allowance scheme, which has so far helped 60,000 unemployed people start their own business.

42. Mr. Lawler

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many places will be available on the enterprise allowance scheme in 1985.

Mr. Alan Clark

As my right hon. Friend announced on 12 November, at columns 445–46, the number of places available on the enterprise allowance scheme will be increased by 25 per cent. in 1985–86 and will offer over 62,000 unemployed people the chance to start their own business.

46. Mr. Batiste

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many jobs have been created by businesses started under the enterprise allowance scheme.

Mr. Alan Clark

I refer my hon. Friend to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Amber Valley (Mr. Oppenheim) earlier today.
