Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what further representations his Department has received in the last year in support of a blindness allowance; and if there is any action he will be taking now or in the foreseeable future.

We have received over 200 representations in the last year, mainly from right hon. and hon. Members, referring to the recent campaign for a blindness allowance organised by the Royal National Institute for the Blind, the National Federation of the Blind and the National League of the Blind and Disabled. As regards meetings with deputations, I refer the right hon. Member to my reply to the hon. Member for Caithness and Sutherland (Mr. Maclennan) on 29 November at column575.

On the question of the introduction of a blindness allowance, I refer the right hon. Member to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Bournemouth, West (Mr. Butterfill) on 22 October at column 514.
