HC Deb 17 December 1984 vol 70 c52W
Mr. Sayeed

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information he has as to the average gross pension, retirement pension and second pension, being awarded to people retiring now.

Mr. Whitney

The latest available information on state retirement pension shows that in the six months to September 1983 the average new award was £27.60; this average includes pensions payable to people overseas, small payments of graduated retirement benefit and retirement pensions for wonen awarded on the basis of either their own or their husband's national insurance contributions. The average amount of new awards of occupational pensions is estimated at approximately £35 a week. This estimate is derived from the Government Actuary's 1983 survey of occupational pension schemes and includes occupational pensions in payment to people under state pension age.
