HC Deb 17 December 1984 vol 70 cc38-9W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what information he has about the use in Britain of methyl isocyanate.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Methyl isocyanate is used in the factory of Ciba Geigy at Grimsby in the manufacture of Thiazofluron, an active ingredient for herbicides. It was used in 1981 in the manufacture of insecticide at the FBC factory at Hauxton, Cambridgeshire. Since that time no insecticide has been made at the factory and only small quantities have been used for laboratory experiments. Some other premises use small quantities for research purposes.
