HC Deb 14 December 1984 vol 69 c615W
Mr. Hancock

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he contemplates the release of any land associated with HMS Vernon within the next 18 months.

Mr. Lee

HMS Vernon is to be home to both Army and Royal Navy diving training establishments from 1985. A general study, including HMS Vernon into naval requirements in the Portsmouth area is under way. No disposal of land relating to HMS Vernon is envisaged in the next 18 months.

Mr. Hancock

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what intention his Department has for the future use of HMS Vernon.

Mr. Lee

The Army and Royal Navy diving training establishments are to be collocated at HMS Vernon from 1985. HMS Vernon is included in a current study of the navy's requirements for shore establishments in the Portsmouth area. It is unlikely that this will result in any change of function in the immediate future.
