asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the percentage of total local government net current expenditure in the Greater Manchester local authority area represented by expenditure by district councils on education, housing and social services.

The metropolitan district councils' 1984–85 budgeted net current expenditure on education—including school meals and milk—housing—non-housing revenue account—and social services—including personal social services and housing benefit—represented about 61 per cent. of all district and county council net current expenditure in the Greater Manchester area.

The metropolitan district councils in Greater Manchester have budgeted in 1984–85 to spend about £772 million of net current expenditure on education—including school meals and milk—housing—non-housing revenue account—and social services—including personal social services and housing benefit.

The metropolitan district councils' 1984–85 budgeted net current expenditure on services other than education — that is education expenditure including school meals and milk — represented about 25 per cent. of all district and county council net current expenditure in the Greater Manchester area.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the actual amount of total local government net current expenditure in the Greater Manchester local authority area incurred by the metropolitan district councils after deducting expenditure on education.
