asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement on the composition of family practitioner committees from April 1985.

From 1 April 1985 family practitioner committees will normally comprise a chairman and 30 members.

The membership will include 15 members of the professions providing family practitioner services appointed from nominations received from local representative committees. There will be seven general medical and one ophthalmic medical practitioner, three dentists, two pharmacists and an ophthalmic and a dispensing optician. Four members will be appointed from nominations received from district health authorities, four from local authorities, and seven from nominations from other sources.

Each committee will include among its membership a nurse with community experience.
