(2) how many young males and females aged between 15 and 21 years were sentenced to periods of youth custody in the year following the implementation of part I, sections 1 to 10, of the Criminal Justice Act 1982;
(3) if he will produce comparative statistical tables outlining the number of youths sentenced to periods of detention centre and imprisonment for the last two years.
§ Mr. MellorThe available information on sentencing in 1982 and 1983 is published in "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales, Supplementary Tables" (table SI.1(a) of Vol. 1 for magistrates' courts and table S2.1(a) for the Crown court) and for indictable offences is summarised in table 7A of "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales, 1983" (Cmnd. 9349). My right hon. and learned Friend plans to publish soon a statistical bulletin giving information on the use of the new sentencing structure for young offenders in the first half of 1984.
