HC Deb 13 December 1984 vol 69 c592W
Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish the report of the audit of 37 health authorities of the collection of money from private patients using National Health Service hospitals.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Ministers asked for this special audit to be carried out. Statutory audit reports have now been issued to those individual health authorities in which the auditors' findings indicate a need for action. The authorities must consider what steps they need to take, and we expect them to do this in open session unless there are compelling public interest reasons for not doing so.
