asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many young persons had been released from youth custody establishments on parole aged (a) 15 to 16 years, (b) 16 to 17 years, (c) 17 to 21 years, by the most recent date available.

The latest available information is given in the following table; it is not possible to distinguish between those discharged from youth custody establishments and those discharged from local prisons. Of the 1,483 young persons discharged, 444 were discharged in the 13¼ months up to 30 June 1984, and 1,039 (including all those aged under 17) in the following four months after the reduction of the minimum qualifying period for parole.
