HC Deb 12 December 1984 vol 69 c526W
71. Mr. Cartwright

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the current state of Anglo-Polish relations.

Mr. Rifkind

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Ealing, North (Mr. Greenway) on 14 November. My recent visit to Poland marked the successful resumption of United Kingdom-Polish contacts at ministerial level.

Our aim now is to work for a more normal bilateral relationship and to encourage the much needed process of reconciliation in that country.

United Kingdom-Polish commercial relations are developing satisfactorily. The United Kingdom-Polish joint commission for economic, industrial, scientific and technological co-operation resumed its work with a meeting in Warsaw in October.
