§ 15. Mr. Norman Atkinsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will now call upon the United States Government to join Britain in new initiatives with Ankara, following the breakdown of the proximity talks in regard to Cyprus.
§ Mr. RentonThe proximity talks organised by the United Nations Secretary General have not broken down. We, the United States Government and our allies have given every support to the Secretary General's initiative. We are in constant touch with all the parties to the dispute to that end.
§ 36. Mr. Hickmetasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the current negotiations in New York on the future of Cyprus.
§ Mr. RentonThe third round of proximity talks held under the auspices of the United Nations Secretary General, started on 26 November. We have given every support to the Secretary General in his search for a settlement of the Cyprus problem.
