384WA
§ The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces (Lord Trefgarne)The decision to close the depot at Crickhowell was announced on 16th August 1984. Before the decision was taken, informal inquiries were made within the Ministry of Defence to see whether there were any alternative military uses for the depot. None was identified. However, as part of the normal process leading up to disposal, formal inquiries for alternative military uses have now been made and some possibilities have been identified. These are currently being studied, and until this process is completed I cannot usefully comment on them. When training ceases at Crickhowell, the junior soldiers of the Prince of Wales Division will move to Shornecliffe. The Welsh adult soldiers will continue to be trained at Litchfield.
