asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what increases have taken place in the level of costs incurred for tuition fees for British students at universities and polytechnics; and to what extent such fees have risen annually since 1979.

British students may be charged higher fees if they do not have the relevant connection with the United Kingdom specified in the Education (Fees and Awards) Regulations 1983 and are not excepted students under the provisions of these regulations.
