HC Deb 06 December 1984 vol 69 cc265-6W
Mr. Frank Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much money has been spent by his Department in each of the past five years, in cost terms, on advising claimants about the effects on their entitlements of industrial disputes.

Mr. Newton

Advice is given to claimants about the effects of industrial disputes on their entitlements by the publication of leaflets and forms, through liaison with trades unions, local organisations etc. and in response to specific inquiries from individuals. I regret that the total cost of providing this information is not available but the cost at 1983 prices of printing the leaflet SB2 (Supplementary Benefit and Trade Disputes) in each of the past five years was as follows:

£
1979 2,400
1980 4,000
1981
1982 7,000
1983 3,400
