Sir Keith Joseph

The first 14 projects in the technical and vocational education initiative have just entered their second year. Forty-eight additional projects commenced this term in England, Wales and Scotland, and authorities not at present participating in the Initiative have been invited to join in 1985 or 1986. Arrangements have also been made for the monitoring and evaluation of the initiative over future years.

19. Mr. Haselhurst

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the implications for secondary education of the technical and vocational education initiative.

Sir Keith Joseph

The 14 pilot projects which began in September 1983, and the further 48 which began this term, are still at an early stage of development. As the students normally take part for four years, it will be some time before the implications of the initiative for secondary education can be fully assessed.
