HC Deb 04 December 1984 vol 69 c118W
Mr. Colvin

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is his estimate of the tonnage of polychlorinated biphenyls due for disposal in 1984 due to scrapped transformers; and how this disposal is likely to take place.

Mr. Gow

My Department estimates that approximately 150 tonnes of polychlorinated biphenyls from scrapped transformers will have been disposed of in 1984 in the United Kingdom. The PCBs were contained in up to 1,000 tonnes of other materials. The method used for disposal is high temperature incineration.
