HC Deb 04 December 1984 vol 69 cc119-20W
Sir Michael Shaw

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will make a statement about relaxations to the statutory accounting requirements for small housing associations.

Mr. Gow

My right hon. Friend, in conjunction with my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales, has today laid the Registered Housing Associations (Limited Accounting Requirements) Order 1984, made under section 124 of the Housing Act 1980. It provides relief to those small housing associations with not more than 100 units of accommodation that are not undertaking grant-aided development or improvement by reducing the accounting information otherwise required under the provisions of the Registered Housing Associations (accounting Requirements) Order 1982. It is anticipated that the exemptions provided will reduce significantly the work necessary in submitting their accounts to the Housing Corporation in a form which will continue to provide full accountability. The provisions of the Order will apply to accounting periods beginning on or after 1st January 1985.
