Mr. Soley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether he will give a full breakdown of the cost of the secretariat of the Association of Chief Police Officers of which 90 per cent. is met from Class IX, Vote 7, of the 1984–85 Supply Estimates;

(2) what information he has as to the numbers of staff employed by the secretariat of the Association of Chief Police Officers; and if he will provide such information as he has on its work.

The estimated expenditure of £157,938 in 1984–85 includes £127,250 for the salaries and related costs of the general secretary and his eight executive and clerical staff, £29,625 for office accommodation and £1,063 for office expenses.

The task of the secretariat is to collate and disseminate information of potential interest to members of the association and to service and co-ordinate the work of its specialist committees.
