HC Deb 03 December 1984 vol 69 c39W
Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what arrangements he has made for the co-ordination of London Regional Transport and British Rail; and what is the date for the extension of travelcards from London Regional Transport to British Rail.

Mrs. Chalker

London Regional Transport and British Rail have a statutory duty under the London Regional Transport Act 1984 to co-operate with each other. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has set up the London Passenger Transport Group, in which he and I meet the two chairmen to agree initiatives affecting the common interests of the operators.

The new joint BR/LRT travelcard—to be known as the Capitalcard—will be available from 6 January next year. It will be in addition to, and not in place of, existing LRT travelcards.
