HC Deb 01 August 1984 vol 65 c260W
Mr. Shore

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what arrangements he made when privatising publicly owned shares in the National Freight Corporation, to ensure that it remains in majority British control.

Mr. Ridley

I am informed that the articles of association of the National Freight Consortium limit ownership of over 80 per cent. of the shares to employees, pensioners and their immediate families.

Mr. Shore

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what was the profit of the National Freight Corporation in the financial year immediately preceding privatisation.

Mr. Ridley

The profit was £4.3 million, before extraordinary items, in the year to 3 October 1981.
