§ Mr. Wallaceasked the Secretary of State for Transport what the estimated savings have been in the years 1982–83 and 1983–84 as a result of the discontinuance of driving tests on remote islands in pursuance of regulation 8(5) of the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1981.
258Wrisk should be borne by the private sector. Despite a lengthly examination no form of proposal considered seemed likely to meet these broad criteria and I have with regret decided not to pursue the involvement of private capital in the road programme on this basis.
