HL Deb 01 August 1984 vol 455 c866WA
Lord Broxbourne

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will make a statement of the position of the assessment of compensation under the Aircraft and Shipbuilding Act and the status and progress of the case in the European Court of Human Rights.

Lord Lucas of Chilworth

Compensation under the Aircraft and Shipbuilding Nationalisation Act 1977 had been assessed and paid by the end of 1981. Seven of the applications by former owners have been considered by the European Commission of Human Rights, which, while concluding that there was no breach of the convention, has referred the cases to the court. The court has invited the parties to submit memorials—that is, written pleadings—by 31 st October.
