HC Deb 30 April 1984 vol 59 cc36-7W
Mr.Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what additional duties he has given to the North-West Council for Sport and Recreation to assist with the implementation of his proposals outlined in the White Paper, "Streamlining the Cities"; if he is prepared to give further financial assistance for such work; and if he will make a statement.

Mr.Macfarlane

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the statement made by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment during the Second Reading debate on the Local Government (Interim Provisions) Bill on 11 April 1984 at column 402–84 about arrangements for sport and recreation after abolition of the Greater London council and the metropolitan county councils. We are consulting the Sports Council and other organisations, including the North-West RCSR, about our proposals for a limited extension of central funding via the Sports Council.
