HC Deb 27 April 1984 vol 58 c616W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many stateless children born in the United Kingdom since 1 January 1983 have applied for registration as a United Kingdom citizen.

Mr. Waddington

The first avenue for a child born stateless in the United Kingdom to seek British citizenship would be through section 1(3) of the British Nationality Act 1981. So far seven children have been registered under this provision, none of whom has proved to be stateless. The nationality of those children who have applied, but have not yet been registered, is not known.
