HC Deb 27 April 1984 vol 58 cc628-9W
Mr. Freeson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how the figures for the financial allocations to the North-West Thames regional health authority for 1983–84 and 1984–85 relate to socio-economic groupings per capita within Greater London;

(2) how the figures for the financial allocations to the North-West Thames regional health authority for 1983–84 and 1984–85 work out on a per capita basis.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The recurrent allocation made to North-West Thames regional health authority per head of population in the region was £179 for 1983–84 and £188 for 1984–85. Using population figures adjusted according to the resource allocation working party's formula to take account of the movement of patients between health regions, of differences in the age and sex composition of the population and of standardised mortality ratios, the allocation per head of weighted population was £194 in 1983–84 and £196 in 1984–85. The average allocation per capita for England was £173 in 1983–84 and £181 in 1984–85. All these figures exclude joint finance, the service increment for teaching and protected sums for supra regional services. They are also figures for the hospital and community services only as they are the parts of the NHS administered by health authorities.

Information on allocations according to socio-economic groupings is not available.
