Information about the breakdown of these amounts by subject, or by English regions and Wales, could not be obtained without disproportionate cost. The University Grants Committee does not make grants to research councils.

Initiatives currently under consideration include the promotion of competition for responsibility for exploiting inventions deriving from research council funded projects; and the introduction of measures to permit and stimulate commercial activities within further and higher education.
