§ Mr. Spellerasked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) if, when he next meets the chairman of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution, he will discuss the implementation of the conclusions of the commission's 10th report on future energy policy.
(2) if, in his consideration of the 10th report of the Royal Commission on environmental pollution, he will give priority to appraising alternative energy policies and seek a progressive shift away from fossil fuels.
416Wproposals includes the quality of the proposal, in particular the innovation that the proposed research represents in relation to known techniques, the expected advantages and the technical feasibility, as well as the technical competence of the proposer, and the value to the Community of the proposed research. The Commission have set a closing date for application of 7 May 1984.
The call for proposals have been brought to the attention of the UKAEA who have a strong interest in this area.
Proposals for Community programmes to support further nuclear and non-nuclear research and development are under discussion in the Council.
§ Mr. Rostasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will provide a schedule of the various funding schemes sponsored by his Department which offer support for investment related to energy conservation, energy research and development and energy demonstration projects; and if he will specify the criteria for qualification, and what publicity he is giving to prospective applicants to assist take-up.

§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithThe Government is giving very careful consideration to all the recommendations made by the Royal Commission in its 10th report, and as my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment told the House on 7 March we intend to respond before the end of the Session.
