HC Deb 13 April 1984 vol 58 cc427-8W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many places will be provided under the community programme of the Manpower Services Commission for long-term unemployed people in Gwynedd and in Arfon, respectively for 1984–85; and how this compares wii h the number provided for 1982–83 and for 1983–84.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the target of filled places for 1983–84 for Gwynedd amounted to 852, this included an extra allocation over and above the area's original share of places which were determined on the basis of long-term unemployment. In 1984–85, the County's share will be 740. In Arfon the figures are 393 for 1983–84 and 240 for 1984–85. The Community Programme did not operate in 1982. In that year, there were 392 places in Gwynedd under its predecessor, the Community Enterprise Programme.
