Mr. Wheeler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he proposes to make any changes in the terms of reference of the Advisory Committee on Service Candidates.

The House resolved in 1963That it is expedient that an advisory committee should be appointed by the Home Secretary to examine every application for release from the armed forces for the purpose of contesting a parliamentary election, and to report to the appropriate Service Minister, in each case, whether or not they are satisfied that it is a bona fide application."—[Official Report, 18 February 1963; Vol. 72, c. 203.]

I propose that in future the Committee appointed in pursuance of this resolution should also consider appllications for the purpose of contesting European Parliament elections.
