Mr. Soames

asked the Secretary of State for Defence in what areas of the procurement budget there is evidence of waste of public moneys.

Mr. Pattie

There are no areas of procurement in which there is evidence of systematic waste of public moneys. Naturally, in a large organisation like the procurement executive, tasked with managing highly complicated and expensive programmes, there is always scope for improving the organisational structure and methods in the pursuit of better value for money. The Government attach great importance to this and we have set in hand a series of initiatives for such improvement.
